Cultura en Contacto - General Information About Completing Cultural Participation

You must complete 100 possible points of coming in contact with Spanish/Hispanic/Latin American cultures in some way outside the classroom. There are different ways to achieve this.  Refer to the sample list that follows.  You are not limited to what's on the list of ideas, but if you are not sure, ask me.  You need to document enough activities to complete 100 possible points and upload your narrative in Spanish to Google Classroom when window is open to submit.  Your narrative can be in a Google Doc or Google Slides.

Documenting your cultural points

You will upload your written documentation (Google Doc or Google Slides) and video where necessary to Google Classroom by December 7, 2018 and May 10, 2019.

Minimum requirements:

  1.  2-3 images of what you did for each activity.  One of your images must include you in it, except for the one titled Research.  (FYI:  Some of the activities require more than 2-3 images or require a video. Those are specified.)
  1.  THREE paragraphs in Spanish for each activity:
  • ACTION:  Describe in detail what you did. Where? When? Who? How much time did you spend? Give as much detail as possible. Include exact dates and times of event.   Action connects your work to the community.
  • CONNECTION:  Why is this important? Why did you choose this project? How does it relate to the culture? To which culture? What were your sources? (Cite the sources of information appropriately) Did it help you understand the language or the people who speak it? How? For example, describe the significance behind a tradition, ritual or celebration you observed.  (If it's a food item, describe the flavors and ingredients used. What are the native ingredients to the recipe?)  Connection connects your work to the class.
  • REFLECTION:  What specifically did you learn? How did you feel? What are your impressions? Would you recommend what you did to another student?  Reflection connects your work to you.

Grading- you will be graded on the following:

  • Following directions
  • Action-Connection-Reflection
  • Effort and creativity
  • Completion of 100 possible points (Not to exceed 125 points total.)
