gourd Siri the week how many are so and then we'll go ahead and get started wedding brooms Nicholas Ramirez how we doing good evening how are you Leslie Martinez yes indeed so if you all have questions while Mr Alvarez is chalking I will go ahead and monitor the chats so feel free to ask questions there I guess we're going to go ahead and start and I'll start by actually introducing the members of the staff that we are are currently in the meeting mrs. If you want to introduce yourself my name is Miss Billings and I am the chemistry teacher for the students when they are juniors mr. Maris hi everyone I am mrs. he resigned aane Academy counselor so I'll be your child's counselor for the next 3 years and Miss Rachel I miss Rachel and I am the academy officer and my name is mr. Albert's I teach are all the engineering and architecture courses and most of the year the academy league and I wanted to walk them all the students and parents that are currently with us all the class of 2024 give you information about the academy and what you should be expecting you know how much you know about the the academy program hair California high school but I will talk about that and I get expectations and some other requirements and then just the overall experience they said if you have any questions along the way don't hesitate to meet yourself and ask or if you just want to type in the chat mrs. Ramirez what kind of keep an eye on that so and so try to respond to that and then we'll make sure that we have the allocate sometime at the end of the meeting so that we're able to answer or something specific questions if you have any so again first light on the road to talk about is the model the caliph the academy model here in California high school we are one of five academies and I here on campus we have Automotive Academy next door Health Academy Business Academy fatality Academy in a corner store and Academy the partnership Academy models that three-year program it does start at the 10th grade year and then the students ideally stay with us for three years a structure has a school but in the school in other words the the number that 34 students that we have selected to start with us next year as sophomores the goal is to keep them together four different courses and this is what the schedule looks like okay so the Academy Academy students or has Academy 10th grade students big travel together as a group for approximately half of the day so they have four courses together I the first one to schedule this is kind of the way it's set up a traditionally wear first. do the introduction to engineering design class and that's that what's that's going to be with me a second. Is the academy physics class 3rd. Is the academy World Series class and then they are all go to English to weather for Fort. So again the same group travels together for those four periods during their junior year the schedule is similar some of the courses they do architecture instead of an introduction to engineering design why do chemistry instead of physics the mrs. billing they do US History instead of World 7  English 3 a senior year it goes down to two courses where they are but again this is kind of a the the way it's set up there's a few exceptions to to the to the class in which students actually go out together but like I said we are going to still keep them together Durango Sport. And the reason for that is there are projects that are completed between courses and we'll talk a little bit more about that in a little in a few minutes expectations and queso from the students so what do we expect from I'm sorry I'm seeing one more person to expect from from the students that are coming into today program good attendance is probably the one thing that we kind of hammer from day one and I'll make sure that the students are present not only the introduction to engineering design class but also the the physics time as Allah has a lot of Hands-On projects and a lot of times if they miss one day you know they tend to fall behind there's a lot of team projects are there going to be involved both in physics and chemistry I'm sorry physics and Engineering class so it is very important for them to you know be here participate or work with their teammate and get their get their tests done so every day you know that's the one thing that we kind of push second item strong work ethic right from day one specially in the engineering you know I make it a point to come for them to understand that I almost got to run to class the same way I would run in office if you will work at an engineering office you're not on your own you always have to dependent on the other students on the other and your classmates to complete work so and you got to do your share work so if you working as a team as a team you want to make sure you're pulling your weight in your completing whatever you commit completing song we are always encouraging students to work hard and not only on their own work but you know how the class has a team soon our responsibility responsibility you know what they say they're going to complete we going to do something you know they do it they they kind of followed through our participation by participation you know we don't want students to kind of pick and choose what they want to do we want them to actually take it upon themselves to you know at least try everything that we do whether an activity in class or a field trip that we're going on or something maybe a competition we were I give it a shot if you want you to at least try it before you say no before you actually you know decided decided not to do it I always have a positive attitude they always have a positive attitude believer that you do you keep your mind open your eyes say you're willing you're always willing to try something new you're going to get a lot out of this Academy and out of this program so but you have together a positive mind and an open mind about Super One More sorry and I'll build good relationships okay Bill good relationship I always thought are the students you know when we first start where the first join the academy you know I don't expect them to become best friends I don't expect them to you know what to do everything together you know I want them to have their own little time away from the Academy I want them to join other clubs I wanted to try Sports I wanted to do that but I also want them to build good relationships good working relationships in the classroom so that we are able to kind of move move things along and get things done but you know after that today was my last day with the senior class and students are graduating next Tuesday night or Wednesday night and you know a lot of them I said they've been together for three years and they built some great relationships I have some former students that are mentors and now coming back after you know how many complete a college now the mentoring other students in the program and they still talk about some of the relationships they were able to build wealth power in the academy so that's something that we we encourage a great deal I don't know if you want to ask something spend this Billings get great the camaraderie within the students is so much fun so they are that we are family and it's one of the favorite one of us think the students favorite part is getting to know each other so well and knowing that they have each other's backs and are there for each other so it's a really fun class to the apartment next item we'll talk a little bit about some of the requirements and some of their graduation requirements then I'm going to have mrs. Ramirez can I help me out with this again has a sophomore in the Academy of the goal is to you know there's we try to break it down into smaller chunks but this is what we're looking at in regards to the overall goal of the academy this is what we would like for you to complete as a sophomore so what you would like to do so we always like to say that are our expectations of our Academy students are a little bit higher than we would expect of the average cal high students so we definitely expect them to keep their grades up now of course the most anything in the academy is. Engineering design course and grade your 11th grade year they have architecture design they need to get a c or better in both semesters or looking to see that they can keep the rest of their grades up I also really looking for Caesar better which would be an average 2.0 but a good majority of our students earn a 3.0 or higher so we're really proud of our students and how well they do once they get into the academy and then he County projects really are a big deal we all work together as an academy team so if there is what's an English paper some of the students haven't completed that English paper are Academy administrator mrs. Aranda or myself might visit the classroom and talk to the students we might be giving you a call parents letting you know they might get pulled out school to go in the library and do some extra work so we really do keep on our Academy students and we don't let them just miss the deadline you really do hold them accountable I think we can we set our expectations but we also have a built-in support group in there you know from from the staff that to make sure that they have whatever they need to actually complete the project and if they are all they need is a little push. Push will be is definitely there okay and I get in the projects we have been an Academy of for over 20 years that we will 24 years and our goal has always been in the reason why those projects were cemented in there we're just going to get them ready for the senior project so little Stepping Stones living up to their senior project but also some of the other requirements I wanted to also point this out those were developed with the information that we were able to gather from our advisory committee members from industry and also some of the community college that I actually sit in and and they're the ones that helped us model in create the direction that we need to go to make sure the students are not only successful while they're here with us but one state they leave also and that's kind of a that's always been our goal thank you mrs. Ramirez navigate to The Community Service components of the requirements no requirement one of the main ones is the 75 hours of community service and this is something that I always go in and I talked to the sophomores about is their community service where they're doing their hours if they have no idea where to go we have a list of places that they can start with but we have a lot of students that are either in Boy Scouts Eagle Scout they are out of church and so maybe they're volunteering at that church we've been pretty flexible. last year with the requirements as far as what will accept but we do have some flexibility so Community College if they do a class that will take the place of the hours so we actually have some Rio Hondo courses that are offered on our campus Mr Alvarez typically is the one that teaches though so that's pretty cool because we have a partnership with Rio Hondo so they can actually get dual enrollment credits and meet at Academy requirement they can also do our construction technology course which is also known as bloodshot and then that's is during the school day so they can take that at any time during their four years and that will limit or it'll kind of whittled down their community service hours to 30 hours and then I have to quite do as much our so they can mix them out a little bit there but we do ask the students are pre-approved their Community Services to make sure that it is something that is a volunteer type nonprofit situation we don't want them working for free or you know we want it to be something really meaningful and valuable for that so we definitely want them. I figured out with me or with mr. Opera is already doing community service for any other program you know we don't we don't have any issues except Eagle's hours to sew and then I we're also looking at implementing you know I know we kind of put it on hold this year but work experience and then internships also has a possibility in the future so that again this is something that we kind of hear from you know college-level that I when their students are filling out their applications if they show they have gone above and beyond what other students are doing it always looks good in the application so it's a great assets all right what to expect from from the academy what should you as a parent and student expect from The Academy number one field trips right we have a and minimum and again that was something that was put on hold this past year we're hoping that next year we're able to go back out there and you know and start participating it's already making out making a waste to our Ochsner sites that are designated for the sophomores guilt episode for the sophomore I said at least three we do the I we we go to work cyark which is the Southern California Institute of architecture and the same day we go to the Science Center so that's what are the pictures that you see there at the with the space shuttle we go to the temple where they're with their history class for their learning about different religions and history so they got a chance see. They also go to bed at Cal Poly Pomona and we switch back and forth and one of the reasons that most of the colleges are I kind of set up Loyola College field trips are the 10th grade year again or universities told us you know what if you're going to bring students to our school to visit our school to hear about our program we want that we want to see them early on we don't want to see them when they're seniors cuz by the time and sometimes little bit too late so we want to see them early so we moved a lot of Love College field trips to the sophomore year so every year Eternal you there go to Cal Poly Pomona they have a great architecture program and engineering program Cal State LA for engineering Cal State Long Beach engineering so we're kind of depending on what's available during the time of the year some of the fun field trips that are open to all grade levels LA County Fair LA County Fair every year of a software to complete a project that I submit you know I picked out the best ones we submit them to the LA County Fair and our students are always rewarded for their for their hard work at the County Fair we get a lot of blue ribbons and so we're able to do we take a little bit of time after school and go see their projects and then have a little bit of fun at the at the fair every once in a while we get calls from you know I said we've been to space acts been in a live in two different locations that you know depending on some of the members of our advisory committee don't help us set up different field trips so but those are usually not structurally they said they did whether there are available or not but the college field trips are kind of built into the software the other items guest speakers bringing in guest speakers into the classroom with her is a former student who now you know practicing architect or an engineer or a current student or anybody out an industry we invite colleges went by local companies to come out and talk to her students and kind of so they could hear it from other than us pictures about what their opportunities out there and what it is they have to do to to get to that point so competition again going back to the one that I mentioned earlier at the LA County Fair who knows that we do with the sophomore year is what it's called the seaperch competition one of the projects in January we the students are go through the process of actually building an underwater robot you learn how to know whether it's using power tools to to drill holes and PVC pipes cutting pipes a soldering waterproofing Motors but they actually has a team baby building underwater robot and then we tested here in the pool and they allow us to it'll take the best two teams usually have a teams in the class every year the year they lost to take the best two teams to go to a regional competition it's a competition that it goes all the way to Nationals and you know so they could represent a small over the country so that's something else of the students will have an opportunity to do during their sophomore year we have competition just amongst our students are we father said we have the automotive Academy next door they are also in the physics class at a different time but we do CO2 dragster in the physics class and they compete against the auto kids to do saltwater solar powered boats are play and again it's always kind of inner class competitions so that's something that you know again we want to get the students out of the class and get them to participate are college information weather is again from my desk speaker or one of our College professors that will easily drop in and kind of give them information by the courses that are offered or available to them right I said we offer a Rio Hondo College class on campus every semester I taught for real hard enough for over 15 years as a part-time teacher the only difference is that for the past 3 years I think the courses you're on campus but are we also invite professors from Fullerton College East LA College they have a great architecture program Cerritos College admin command give information about glasses that they can start taking while they're still in high school career guidance same idea kind of clothes all ties back to our guest speakers and some of the field trips that we go on but we start talking about a lot of times when we first interviewer the students coming into the academy they all want to be Engineers or I can let you know if they why do you want to join the Academy I want to be an engineer well there's many different type of Engineers has many different type of our so our goal is that in the time that we have them here try to introduce them to as all the different Avenues only different types of engineering that they can go into so from day one that's one of the first activities that they do figure out you know what type of engineering they actually are more interested in or you think they're interested in the same thing for architecture so that's kind of our goal positive recognition one of things are mrs. Ramirez mentioned you're about her student having you know awesome GPS I usually have to you know you said you're pushing hard is a lot of encouragement we want them to do well and they're very watery we normally carry about 90 90 plus students in the academy at all three grade levels we usually have about 70 of those 90 students actually with a 3.0 or better so we always have a luncheon or some type of reward for okay but we also for the ones that are not doing about the ones that are struggling we have what is called a academic support So at every grading. Look at the great you know if they're not doing call in a class weather is one of the four Academy classes or you know the math class or foreign language P whatever happens to be if they're struggling we we try to encourage them to go to a tutoring teachers you know make those mixed in Alaska's questions from teacher and see what what can I do to improve my grade so we make sure we pull them in or we make them brighter so if you see any of these are you'll see those papers that they have to keep track of hours wear when they go to a tutoring or anything like that so we try to accept a reward for doing well but we also have a built-in support photos of the need that extra help as far as the the whole Academy experience and a whole Academy experience it said a lot of Hands-On projects at each of the Grail they're always doing something with her hands yes we're learning software and yes we do spend time on the computers drawing but a lot of times I said that they're learning how to solder we have a lot of equipment in the classroom here so we have 3D printer printers that they do have the opportunity to actually learn and learn how to operate we have a laser cutters we have a CNC we have a small woodworking shop in the classroom so you see some of the pictures about a timer seniors little by little I try to give them shop safety and make sure they're clear and different machinery's so by the time they're seniors are able to use whatever equipment we have in the cost and again you know the concept of whether you want to be an engineer or you want to be an architect the concept of just kind of visualizing something or thinking of an idea being able to sketch it being able to draw in a computer and then make it probably what we were going to do okay so it's not just about a matter of learning software and doing drawings but it's so you know taking an idea from from here to paper to computer create a three-dimensional model of a I'll have the ability to turn around and manufacture every year instead of as part of the academy we have a the grandstand where we get some money to buy new equipment we're buying water jet Cutters for next year we have vacuum forming so you know just different methods of actually manufacturing products and that's kind of our from the daily walk in your start learning all those different pieces of equipment our offer operate them safely know what we do not a Hands-On project we again based on the information that we get from our advisory committee we try to maintain our software license is up-to-date for students are using the same software that Architects and Engineers I use it on the field we have adopted our desk so that's the software that we have in the classroom this year we had our own Adams step aside from it for a little bit and use a different software that was an online software but our plan is mixture to go back to Autodesk products and you know again provide something of the students if they're learning it in the classroom know they go out and get a job likely that it will be the same soft fur our family days family days to something that we try to do at least twice a year and what it is is a student * 90 + 3 is that we have in the academy Break It We break it up into a different families each family has a faculty member responsible for that family a parent and every family is made of all three grade levels and their the idea behind this is that we want the seniors to get to know the sophomores and juniors are the kind of meant for each other and support each other cuz they're going to go through Canada same training so we pulled them out of class for a few hours and we have just team building activities out in our garden here so just to let it get to know each other and I can kind of the whole concept of working as a team the drafting Club to the Grafton club actually yesterday I had a meeting with my future officers for next year and when school starts I will be asking you guys to not only to join but also to be part of the the officer group the kind of runs every all the social activities for the drafting Club they run out of competitions lunches that we have fundraising so again we all those opportunities for your leadership and do so again those are the little things that make a difference when you go apply for college if you were involved or we're in charge of the club or anything like that you can't talk about the field trips built-in at every grade level different field trips we have a mentor program that is also at the junior year and the mentor program is where we invite members of the community adult search for the community that are either in the construction field engineering architecture manufacturing anything and we practically pair them up with our Junior usually is One Mentor two of our Junior students so in again just to give them an opportunity or give them someone that they could ask questions of other than our teachers are getting a lot of time with mix such a a bigger deal if they hear it from someone who's already out there working so that will take place during the June New Year fundraising said we do have you have a grand and that Grant is based on specific information that we have to gather for each student we have to write a report and then the determine how much money we get and it's been ongoing for over 20 years but that money that we get we're able to upgrade our computers make sure that our software is current we're able to buy new pieces of equipment we pay for all the fish we paid for you know time away from the classroom for teachers to attend field trips and plan activities and all that but the one thing that we're not able to do is to provide food or any type of clothing the students are going to wear whatever we going to filter be easily have a students were in New York at any Academy t-shirt and as they move on to the academy so Jenny years to have the option of buying a seniors polo shirt with their name on it and they're an officer to put their title on it so but it's something that we do but unfortunately those are the few things that were not able to pay out of our grants so we do help but we do ask students to help us out with fundraise one of the things we do is a sponsorship we asked the students you know approach either a family member or someone there might let me know and see if they're able to you know get them to sponsor them for the year we have some companies that make donations we had and we're going to try to get it born again we had a one of our seniors about I want to say about eight years ago as a senior project started a paper recycling program here at school and he actually found a company that would you know they brought the it would pick up the paper about once a month and all we had to do is how our students going to gather all those paper from teachers and we always have volunteers walk around picking up paper and then fill up the dumpster and then come and get it and the company will pay us for that we used to collect about $600 a year and that was kind of what how we used to find our student of the month every month we asked our teachers to nominate one student we don't for whatever reason you know they want and we buy them lunch we will you print out a really nice certificate for them so this is how we were able to fund that unfortunately company change Mary Berry been changed ownership and they were not able to help us out anymore so we're looking for someone else to try to step in and hopefully another company that is willing to recycle the paper pills a little bit so we can play money every once in a while we do some local restaurants fundraisers so we've worked with rubies we've done Blaze Pizza and a couple other locations where we know we try to encourage family members to you don't have dinner and go out and enjoy a meal and then a small percentage of that comes back to the program and again I cannot leave it open because I know that those are those are the fundraising activities we have done in the past but we're open to any suggestions and this is where you know where are all so kind of you know from the parents they don't have any ideas or if you know of any anything the week we might be try we want to get all the students involved right we want to make sure that you know when when when they go out and field trips they have a shirt to wear right we we provide one for all the students usually again we're not able to give them away so we lend them out and they could use it but if they know they help out with the fundraising you know that they get their own so that's kind of how we do that so we try to make it so the Friday since we call Academy Friday we're all three grade levels and the faculty member members we all wear a neon with as a t-shirt polo shirt or anything else that we have that is a unique so competition and actually one of the complications that I didn't talk about was the skillsusa so somewhere or sophomores participating what it's called used will stay where they compete against students from other schools and against our national competition so far we have gone as far as those bronze at the state level so that's as far as we have reached in The Last 5 Years of bronze medal so gold medal gets to compete in the National so I guess we also got a raise money for that for me to hotels and making sure chaperones are able to stay at the hotels with the students and all that so what kind of a really quick and brief overview of our program and said we wanted to make sure we had some time for questions so I know that you know we kind of I'm done a lot of a lot of talking so now I'm going to go ahead and open app for question so if you have a question you feel comfortable you want to throw in your microphone and and ask a question you're free to do so if not you put on the chat and then we'll try to answer as many questions as we but again this is our our Academy I said I'm glad and I'm very excited to know to meet your instead of we did all the interviews on Zoom meeting so next year when school start what's going to be the first day I I mean most of your sons and daughters so I'm really looking forward to that and we're hoping to also have our any events where we get to welcome you guys and kind of meet you guys soon Rose like to get to know the parents since we're hoping that you know we're going to be together as a team and a family for the next two years so any questions before we do questions I just had a quick little I'm something to say about summer school cuz I am getting some questions so I want to make sure that everybody is clear on summer school so as you saw from mr. Alvarez his presentation the academy classes they actually have four classes with the Academy students as well as their math class and then that leaves room for one more class so that's either going to be PE at letics or the foreign language class for the world language class do for summer school where are Academy students we do have the opportunity for them to take PE and get that out of the way he is meeting in person during the summer I did email everybody who I scheduled in for summer school so if you're not too sure if your if your child has summer school or not that can be found on their Aerie's Student Portal or you can ask me I'm so they either have PE or they have Spanish to or they might have signed up for a Rio Hondo course like the SL 101 or the Spanish 101 so I just wanted to make sure everybody was clear on summer school one of the questions is there anything else they should be preparing for over the summer besides taking classes Community if you're able to do any type of community service I don't know if any opportunities will be available during the summer but I would but that would be an option see you I know that some of the students that are joining the academy where in my introduction to or in the engineering Graphics class I will suggest those of you that have had the opportunity to kind of see what the software is all about our software similar to what we're going to use in class his computer or practice so that when you come back we're not starting from scratch for those of you that are not familiar with the software I would put on I will be adding a link to the software you can create a free account and possibly some tutorial so you can start kind of getting used to what you're going to see once you're back in the classroom still you have any other information about the SL Plus you still there you go so I went ahead and put it in the chat go ahead and contact Miss Luna for that but I believe that they can also log into their Rio Hondo portals and see the confirmation of registration for that class little different with Rio Hondo classes because we facilitate them but they are a college class so it's not something that the counselors have access to work how high has access to but our Rio Hondo Works directly with our College and Career advisor Miss Luna and so she'd be the one to ask just to confirm. You're all good to go as far as the the requirements do you have those two projects that you have to complete one project at the junior senior project so I guess I'm saying you you do have to complete all the requirements the only thing where you there's some options it's in the community service you can do the community service or a college class or combination of you know the what the woodworking class and community service so but although out little projects you do have to complete I would like a lot it happens over the course of three years and I'm typing that in the chat now as well and that's something that I speak with the temperature is about is where you doing your community service and you should be doing 25 hours each year get down that way it's really not that bad in fact a lot of our students will knock those hours out in the summer when they have a lot of extra free time they might be working at the Boys & Girls Club cracker some summer camp or something like that and yes if you are I was going to get a few day if you need hours for like Boy Scouts Girl Scouts you doing your first or confirmation classes and you have to do community service hours any of those hours you could also document for the Academy so that there's no issues with no double-dipping anything like that so we just want you to be up at the credit or doing so so I know it's not 75 hours yes $35 over three years so I've been waiting cuz you play 5 so that we don't want you to try to do 75 hours your senior year and we always have seniors at try to do that and it's a little bit over call me so my suggestion is always just to break it up into smaller chunks and you know so you're not doing but over 75 hours does it have to be all at same place you can do a few hours here and a few hours of someplace else so it's 75 in Euless have over all of the different things that you want to try and we do have a form where students actually document 3 hours three part form so if you're already doing hours are you planning on doing hours over the summer and you want to make sure you get that signature if you can just send either myself an email or this is Ramirez or Miss Rachel we will mail you the the three part form that you could fill out that way is a lot of times you know you volunteer somewhere for and you get like 10 hours out of the way and but you might not necessarily see that person who's going to verify those hours again or you know so you want to get that signature as soon as soon as possible again if you do it always over the break or the summer break or maybe you've done some already why you you know this this past year which I don't know if it was even possible but if you did let us know and we will be more than happy to mail out that the three part form so you can what's you you will not end up keeping a copy in this your marriage will keep a copy and then we keep on a Knoll Academy files to so then just for the reference to any other questions that I and I know that if you need to know anyting little more specific about the class or you know like I said sophomore year we aren't the main focus is the engineering that's kind of engineering is the focus junior year we switch overs into architecture design so and then senior year they have the other your students will have the option you know if they like engineering you know they may stay with that they could do the engineering Graphics class II Pike or if they like architecture that it could go into the Architects are gone so so there's to Advanced course one for architecture 1/4 engineering the seniors work together so the senior class is one big group but I teach both classes and you know the same time so I said it's something that we've been doing for a long time just to make sure we're giving soon as y'all teenage going to pursue what their interest where their interest is during the school year we always come together both groups or as a class and and do projects that are you know what does it matter where the architectural engineering won the last fight the we've done this is the first year that we don't actually yet last year was We can do it either fourth quarter was one of the projects that we do is we learn you know material we talked about materials and how to best utilize materials that are available to us so architecture students work with an engineering students together as a team they design a boat big enough for two 2T members and it just happens to be the material they have to work with his cardboard so they have to build a cardboard boat that is going to carry two of the team members and we literally put them in the water and we test them and we raced them across the pool so that's again just getting all the stuff going to work together and working as a team whether you're in the architecture or in the engineering field in the future less that's the way it's going to be again in the days were engineers going to work in a little cubicle their own those days are gone you're going to be working with all the different type of fields and different type of Engineers Architects construction everybody so it's very important that you learn to communicate and work with a different traits in different fields any other questions as far as again they're the class that you need will be provided for you or so anything that you need will be provided for you so Serra Mesa your question my wife and I are watching question I don't know where we used to have the kids help out which form or some stuff like that is that something that counts as free credit points or anything like that outside of the school day so if they're helping after school with sports and yes we were like so usually we we have a son is running through mrs. Renee myself first that I was just to make sure but I would usually then that is something they could also do also I missed must Miss aluminum bad like CNC sand stuff that is that a PowerPoint can they use stuff like that I have a small project that we do each grade level so they like freshman year they do a 3D printing they do the laser cutter they do vacuum forming sophomore year or junior junior the architecture class where the router or the mail usually by the senior years when they start getting into it so little bit of programming and developing projects that we can actually manufacture using those two pieces of equipment play one last question if you were able to explain to me a little bit the difference between this academies and what are used to be the Arabic classes you're more about classes nursing insurance what is a basic difference between used to be at that school before and now for as long as I mean number one it's it's kind of a team approach a group of teachers that are kind of working together all the projects are not something that they're doing solely in my class but the practice they're doing here going to spill out into the English class in the social studies class so are there Kenny sing a well-rounded you know it occasion where they're doing research and in history and English and then applying it to the project that we do here so you know whatever is happening science a lot the physics class it's all you know it all comes back to the what we do here and then vice versa so it's it's not a standalone class you know it's you got a sophomore and junior year you can working with a group of female 30-plus students projects again ago you know back and forth so eClass in fact our Woodshop class is an r o p class so basically a cowhide students have the opportunity to complete a career pathway they can do that in a number of ways one way is to complete the academy program so I completing three years of age they're completing. Sequence of the engineering the architecture that advanced level they can also complete a pathway by doing two years of wood shot or they can do photography wanted to so there's a variety of career pathway options we have for projects you guys going to do cuz I remember yeah we back when we were there you would send your regular classes and then you will have your Automotive you will have your Woodshop and back then we used to have metal shop so stand-alone closet you had took it back out how you can get up with your high school Drafting and so on so but it sounds like do these classes tight end that you said tight end the other paths along with the engineering design architecture correct Wells Fargo lasino to make it a more rounded instead I still teach I teach my classes during the school day. the academy classes the other two are opening like this for for students or they could be another Academy and pick my class in the afternoon or they could be a student who's not in any program take my classes and I liked it so we still have those you know those options but this kind of again I think it ties it all together keeps him focused and also I mean from little things like we have a we have a newsletter we have a newsletter for for a program so if they go on a field trip what are the first assignment they do when they come back into English classes to write an article about the experience in the field trip and then we usually pick out the best ones for our newsletters you know recorded you said it's all it's all written by students all the articles are written by students and prepared by students you know but it is getting that where we normally would take a group of students on a field trip and we come back and you know if you got something good out of it greatest Mountain know we had we make sure that our teachers in the English classes are okay you know this break it down what did you learn and write an article about it and then request that we use for our newsletter so in the near future you're you're start getting caught you'll start getting copies of those newsletters it's all student base and again it's just a little component of the academy where we try to bring everything together so any special things about this Academy is just like we've kind of been saying I think it's just we see our students have been made it through and made it into the industry and they're like oh man I wish you would have had okay great let's make that a requirement let's add more community service or so we're trying to all we know what the college is really liked if I did this okay let's add you know this making sure that if our students want to become Architects and Engineers that week everything they need so that once they leave their ready they're good to go so that's why they have the classes they have that's why we have the requirements of having the community service for the mentorship program so that when they leave they feel confident and they feel like yeah I can do this and I'm ready and I want that next job so it's not just like you said it's not such an Arabic class is making sure that all of their life is getting ready for that so that they can take that next step when they graduate right now that I command you guys that you guys have the the like I said we used to have Middle School back in the days and that went out years ago and they said because introducing such things as females and stuff like that cuz that's you know that's something that it's a good thing to learn from them and they can fall back on you know using your house is that something that it's actually needed in an industry that's around Billy was saying that a lot of times just comes back from former students Rent-A-Center graduated here about 5 years ago College you know it was pretty much when he was here designing reading some for other people in manufacturing them decided to want to be a machinist and college and came back and talked to me about how important it was for to learn about CNC and we started looking at you okay pretty expensive how can we argue that are some money from different budgets and and purchase one so we listen to you know what are former students have to stay and what people industry have to say and another College love how to say so that's the whole purpose and again that's one of the requirements of the grant is to have an advisory committee but I think that even moving or if it didn't have a grand we would still want to do that just because we so much great feedback and again just Direction which you know otherwise if I'm stuck in a classroom here I don't know what's going on in the street so I do need to hear from them so right what are the things that I started to say earlier in our previous meeting his materials and you know for the class pretty much snow will you walk in a day one you will you get a cubby in the classroom and has a measuring equipment some drafting tools and a place to actually store your we have an engineer in engineering notebook that I will distributed to every sophomore student coming in 3D printing whenever we do a project one of the things that I that I learned kind of going to school Myself & I uniform Studio is that you know we always have like little competitions in a classroom you know you do a project you take a pic of you you posted on the wall we have the Upper Grade Upper Grade levels boat on the project and we 3D print music you know the best the best five the best 10 depending on what we're doing and if a student really wants to print their own and we might give them the opportunity to to pay a small fee to have something 3D printed but I will try to print as many projects for school all for doing laser cutting I said I was lucky enough to get a lot of plywood quarter inch plywood donated two years back so you still have a lot of it so we're able to do projects on laser cutter we're just finishing a phone stand and some other little things that we do so just so that they are able to use the equipment or learn how to use the equipment but normally it is just been walking in here and I've been through she has them in the open mind and the willingness to work hard and learn that's what we are that's what we want you to come over there. So what I said after one year usually happens around 5 through March we start planning for the following year so hopefully by then you know you you have a good idea whether this is something you want to do and you want to stay with us for the additional two years or you know every year you know do have students one or two to decide that you know what maybe this is not for me maybe I want to try something else and that's also kind of a benefit maybe you thought you wanted to be an engineer and once you get your hands on during your stay working on it you realize you know what maybe not for me and you don't want to try different avenue so if you win if you get that out of being part of our program you know it's a good thing so but I only said we start with about 34 we usually graduate you know when the high twenties so my goal is that another group that we start with this year will hopefully be able to keep all of you for 3 years 3 years from now we're going about this time in three years were kind of seen you off and graduating and moving on to you no work University Community College wherever you want to go so all right any final questions either from for me or misspellings Ramirez instead of or if you think of anything else later on I said don't hesitate to set up an email or phone call so we would be happy to answer your questions either today or later so when I get I want to thank you for being here and you know I'm like I said I'm very appreciative of you guys as parents to take an interest in with your students of the things to do in the academy that they have decided to join us so we're looking forward to meeting them all and also meeting you guys as parents and some of our teacher Academy activity so again it'll stick around and answer some questions, but otherwise I thank you for being here and you guys have a good night picture of President is a question in the chat about how are we going to Rachel got it nevermind will it be an email Rachel I'm thinking so I went I was going to discuss that with Ricardo but I know I asked you if you said we were going to record it and then I think I would just go ahead I'm sorry I had to drop off my daughter yeah so I think we're going to be an email or I don't know I know there was we're going to send out an invitation which offers for Google classroom and remember that be on the letter so I don't know this way of actually sharing it with it will be easier just to post it on the website or we just email it to all the parents so we'll we'll figure out the best in the next tomorrow so since we see how big the finalists thank you very much like what is.
