A teacher or group of teachers write a new course of study either to address a local site need or as part of a district curriculum writing team.
The course of study is forwarded to the Director, Curriculum & Instructional Materials for review. The course of study is aligned to the district format, edited, and any obvious lack of clarity addressed.
The Director forwards the course of study to the appropriate Curriculum Improvement Team (CIT) for review. A CIT consists of the department chairs in that subject area (English, math, science, etc.) that meet monthly to discuss curriculum, instruction, student performance, and instructional materials. The teacher(s) who wrote the course of study are invited to attend the CIT meeting in order to explain their course of study and to answer any questions.
If the CIT recommends revisions to the course of study, the teacher(s) continue to work on the document and resubmit it to the CIT.
If the CIT recommends the course of study for approval, it is forwarded to the District Curriculum Council (DCC) for review. The DCC consists of the following members:
Assistant Superintendent, Educational Services
Director, Curriculum & Instructional Materials
Assistant Principals, Curriculum all sites
Assistant Principal, Guidance one representative

Assistant Superintendents
Director, Student Support Services
Director, Curriculum & Instructional Materials
Director, State & Federal Categorical Projects
Director, Assessment & Professional Development
